What is the difference between sound insulation (Rw) and sound absorption (alpha w)?
Rw measures how much sound a panel blocks between two spaces (sound transmission loss) – higher is better, up to 58dB for ARCOPAN panels. Alpha w measures how much sound a panel absorbs inside a room to reduce echo and reverberation – a value of 0.95 means 95% absorption. Microperforated finishes improve alpha w without significantly affecting Rw.
Which thickness do I need for my application?
For office partitions, 40-60mm (Rw 38-44dB) is typically sufficient. Plant rooms and compressor enclosures usually require 100-120mm (Rw 53-56dB). Recording studios and high-noise generator rooms benefit from 150mm (Rw 58dB). Our engineers can recommend exact thickness based on source noise level (dB) and target receiving-room level.
Are acoustic panels fire-rated?
Yes. All ARCOPAN acoustic panels use a Rockwool core achieving A1 non-combustible classification under EN 13501-1 – the highest fire rating available for sandwich panels, making them suitable for plant rooms, generator enclosures and other fire-sensitive areas.
What surface finish should I choose?
Standard polyester or PVDF coated steel provides good Rw performance and is easy to clean. Microperforated steel facings improve in-room sound absorption (higher alpha w), reducing echo – recommended for studios, gyms and large workshop spaces where reverberation is a concern.
What certifications and test reports are available?
Panels are CE marked under EN 13162. Acoustic performance is tested to EN ISO 10140 (sound insulation) and EN ISO 354 (sound absorption). Full test certificates, CE Declaration of Performance and ISO 9001:2015 documentation are provided on request for tender submissions.
